The Complaints and Appeals Board for .nl Domain Names (C&AB) is an independent body. As a .nl registrant or a .nl registrar, you can appeal to the C&AB against certain types of decision made by SIDN BV, the registry for .nl domain names (referred to below simply as 'SIDN'). You can also make a complaint to the C&AB if you believe that a .nl domain name's registration is inconsistent with public order or decency.

The C&AB's activities are based on SIDN's General Terms and Conditions:

The procedures for making complaints and appeals are set out in the Complaints and Appeals Regulations. On this website, you will find additional information about the matters you can ask the C&AB to consider.

History of the C&AB The Complaints and Appeals Board was established in 2001 to succeed the Appeals Board. That organisation's main task had been considering appeals against the rejection of applications to register .nl domain names in the days before anyone could register a domain name. When the restrictions were removed, the new C&AB was given the job of considering complaints about registered domain names that were alleged to be inconsistent with public order or decency. Such complaints were enabled to prevent abuse of the new policy of allowing anyone anywhere to register almost any .nl domain name they wanted. The C&AB was also given the power to consider appeals made by .nl registrants – and, later, registrars – against decisions made by SIDN in certain circumstances. The presence of the C&AB therefore helps to ensure that SIDN is mindful of the need to perform its functions fairly and responsibly.
